The rule is liquids, gels and aerosols. Jars of jam/jelly and the like are gel-like and get treated like toothpaste even if in a glass jar.
With regard to taking it into the passenger cabin:
Unless your purchase is from a duty-free at-airport shop or duty-free in-flight shop that provides a sealed bag for their purchases to be exempt from the L/G/A rule and it's still in such sealed bag, there is a high risk of being separated from your purchases of this sort. That is unless you can break the items down into smaller containers and abide by the 3-1-1 TSA type rule that applies at AMS too.
Placing the 12 oz jars in your checked bag increases the odds of not being made to toss it or go back to check it in as checked luggage.
