Prepaid plans, whether it's VZW or AT&T Gophone or T-Mo, they don't need to run any credit check, just a valid address - use one of OP's hotel address & it should pass, just add funds to it during activation & be prepared with a PINS-based refill card or use credit card (alert your bank ahead of travel always help).
VZW's prepaid hotspot plan is month-to-month without contract - the MHS800L model operating exclusively on LTE band 4 & 13 only - outside of north america - it's a paperweight. 2GB is $35 good for 60 days, plus the device price of $50, plus sales tax - not a bad deal. It's not clear whether the 4G speed is capped below a threshold.
Straight Talk has a 4GB hotspot plan, $40 for 60 days and the ZTE Z289L hotspot & apparently works on both VZW & AT&T's data network, so it's a bit more flexible - support 5 devices (vs. 8 for VZW) and battery life is shorter vs. the MHS model, device is also $50 & no contract. Downside is OP will need to get to a local Walmart store to purchase & get it activated, which is easy - unless s/he can order online & have it shipped to the hotel & held for arrival.
Depending on OP's plans for visits & places to go, the Straight Talk plan can be competitive and return to Europe, the hotspot could work in other countries - the VZW model, most likely, not going to work elsewhere.

The other alternatives, bring & use an unlocked Android device (was using our Nexus 5) as a mobile hotspot to share full 4G/LTE data with additional devices & tablets - perhaps an inexpensive spare Android as the backup. One of our T-Mobile prepaid line is a $30 plan, 5GB of full 4G/LTE data for 30 days & include 100 voice minutes - and, I do calls over WiFi & VoIP - Skype & Hangouts, work nicely; no additional devices to carry around & to keep it charged up on the go. Not all carriers/plans "officially" allow tethering or allow it on a higher priced plans only.
