Being pragmatic for a moment - the cost of a single rail ticket between BRU and AMS is not very much compared with the cost of the rest of the itinerary in J. I would just sort a firm booking, cope with a centre seat (hardly a major issue in J in an A380) and submit a claim to EK for the train fare without too much emotional investment in the outcome.
