I had two big projects in 2015, up from one in 2014 and hence showing growth - one (a design agency, not an airline) was in London so no travel was required and the other, which did involve air travel on both BA and my Client's (SunExpress) aircraft, took place in Frankfurt, Izmir and Antalya.

I could have paid cash for my BA tickets and indeed the price I quoted the Client was all-inclusive, at their request I might add. But every flight I took was available using Avios and I figured that I would use Avios rather than cash.

What I spent = GBP 335 + 126,750 Avios
What I would have spent = GBP 2,632.28
What I saved = GBP 2,297.28 = 1.81p per Avios

...made up of one return trip to Newcastle, another to Istanbul and the rest to Frankfurt. What made it even better was that I got row 1 on every trip too!

Under normal circumstances this flying would have earned me 600 tier points and I would have qualified for Silver. But I reckon that the money is better in my pocket than BA's and in any case I still have 120,085 Avios left so am by no means short.

The next project will (hopefully!) be in Colchester (the glamour, the glamour!) and Antwerp so Abellio Greater Anglia and Eurostar here I (hopefully!) come.
