The kiosks seem to print tickets up to departure as long as you're checked in, but I've only done that domestically.

Technically, for a same day turn from USA-PVG, one should be able to check in on the ground at USA for the return flight from PVG since it's under 24 hours, but not sure if the kiosk at US airports will have that option, may have to try the agents and see.
