No, this isn't how it works. The price initially shown for each return flight is the lowest theoretical attributable half-round trip fare for that flight that could be combined with any of the outbound flights initially shown.

When you actually select one of the outbound flights, the now-invalid price combinations are removed from the grid so that you only see the actual prices that can be combined with the outbound flight you've selected.

If you try the other outbound flights that are initially shown, you should eventually find one that allows you to select the return flight price you first saw.

No and no.

If you don't like the way that the ba.com grid works (and the frequent queries about it shows that it can be confusing), then you might want to try ITA or Google Flights to begin with to find what the prices are.
