MIA has been suffering from chronic gate shortages ever since the hub was rebanked. The North Terminal just doesn't have enough gates to sustain AA's operation.

The aviation department has suggested that airlines may have to park aircraft at remote stands and bus passengers to/from the terminal as an interim measure. Any construction of additional gates is maybe 10 years away at best.
