Great advice! According to google, that drive is actually a bit shorter than the route via Kayenta. I think I am going to do both routes - one on the way in, the other on the way out.
1!! I'd say the drive is more worth it than spending time in Moab (Arches NP excepted)
You are right, I am not staying in Moab. I will do a canoe trip though Canyonlands NP.
