Quite often on Iberia or airberlin you don't hear a word from the pilot and I do miss it.
AA pilots seem to be quite chatty too, so I'm not sure what you're getting at.
You have to consider that in airlines like IB, the captain has to make the announcement in two languages, which naturally cuts down on the chattiness.
