Glad to see this seems to have sparked a genuine discussion.

While I'm the first to admit that in many ways, I've become a living cliché of what people like to make fun of San Francisco for, I don't think that's any reason to make excuses for AC and other airlines that refuse to embrace new consumer trends until they are forced to by the competition.

Is a desire for a healthier lifestyle really something deserving of ridicule? Should someone who paid a few thousand dollars to sit up front really have to resort to "eating around" or be expected to bring their own meal on a 12+ hour flight? Sure, this is a first world problem, but I'd argue air travel, and certainly premium class air travel, is a first world concern...so that dismissal would pretty much apply to everything discussed on this forum.

Considering that almost all fast food restaurants now offer at least a couple different salad choices, is it too much to expect airlines to do the same? If AC has 17 different types of special meals, why can't one of them just be an entrée salad? And with today's technology, would allowing passengers to view a menu and order a meal (if they wish) ahead of time be that difficult?

Of course I can manage my way around the status quo. But if we as consumers don't demand change, companies like AC are unlikely to be proactive.
