No it is not. It is an issue of receiving a quality product in return for a premium price. AC like many airlines loads up its meals with sodium, fat and starch. The reason it does this is because it can get away with it. It's cheaper and more expedient for the airline to approve menus like that. The airline could provide better quality, healthier options, but it would cost more to do so. The extra $1-5$ a meal adds up. There are also a lot of pax who are addicted to high fat, high sodium prepared foods. They would complain as this thread demonstrates.

I direct your attention to the fact that the presence of a salad, and fruit plates only occurred in the last 20 years or so when issues of cholesterol and high fat meals became a concern. Until then, one did not see much in the way of healthy fare, especially in the 70's. The pork sausages, eggs with the orange dairy product topping and fried reconstituted potato flake product in the MLL are a throw back to that period with their high sodium and high fat content. Take a napkin and squeeze one of the sausages. That's what goes in your arteries.

The improvement in airline food today came about because of concerns similar to those expressed by the OP. I would go so far as to say, we should be thanking people like the OP, otherwise we'd still be served food deep fat fried featuring a high % of trans fat seasoned with msg and other enhancers. If AC could get away with serving low quality hotdogs and bologna sandwiches it would.
