Taking Mrs. Aces to Rome for our 25th anniversary in September. I'm a Plat. Trying to decide between the St. Regis and the Excelsior (pretty much written off the Cav with the distance and lack of diamond benefits). We'll be in Rome 6 nights. Leaning heavily toward the Excelsior right now based on location and upthread reviews (for those that have posted upthread thanks for the great details & info). There doesn't seem to be too many recent reviews though since the sale. For those with recent stays:

• Is the hotel still maintaining it's standards (service, rooms, common areas, F&B, etc)?
• Is full breakfast still offered as a Plat amenity?
• Are upgrades still a possibility (SNA or regular)

Do any of you folks that have preferred the Excelsior in the past now prefer the STR? Looks like the Excelsior would be a great place to spend an anniversary - just want to make sure the situation there isn't changing. Thanks in advance!
