I'd skip Salzburg honestly and day trip ...well overnight 1 night...in Bad Gastein, or Hallstatt or somewhere in that area. You can pass through Salzburg briefly and have a much nicer stay in the smaller stunning, straight out of a postcard, sound-of-music perfect, towns.
