If you are travelling hand baggage only from LHR-EDI, then yes you won't have to go landside as you'll disembark into the departures lounge.
So if I have this correct, you are travelling LHR-EDI with an empty hand baggage case, disembarking and buying alcohol from EDI duty free and then flying back to LHR with the alcohol in the bag?
Re-reading my original opening mail, yes did not explain myself properly, yes we are traveling from LHR to EDI and back to LHR, with said empty cabin bag, with plenty of towels to wrap up the alcohol and walk off at LHR .
The point I was trying to confirm was if cabin bag went into the hold where would I pick it up at EDI, certainly did not want to go out and re-enter and waste time, so that now is why bag will travel happily in the cabin hopefully finding a space in over head locker.^
