I think people were under the impression you were checking in a bag from LHR-EDI, in which case you would have to go landside to collect it.
If you are travelling hand baggage only from LHR-EDI, then yes you won't have to go landside as you'll disembark into the departures lounge.
So if I have this correct, you are travelling LHR-EDI with an empty hand baggage case, disembarking and buying alcohol from EDI duty free and then flying back to LHR with the alcohol in the bag?
