Ha. We can all agree it's annoying when they interrupt, but I would think there is some sort of safety regulation that requires them to do so. Literally not one safety announcement was made that paused the IFE or was made through the headphones if you were already listening to something on the IFE.
It's been awhile but when a flew LH on a wide body Airbus that had handheld movie players, they were unimpacted by any onboard announcements (old tapes in em, no connectivity.). Was the most peaceful, uninterrupted pre-takeoff I've had. Now this was Europe to Africa, not in the US, different regulators, but that was standard equipment so I doubt that it violated anything.
