Don't know the fare differential but I'd choose CX over AC any time. The heck with the miles.
I know. It's tempting. However, I'm 20 mins from EWR- a straight shot on 78 to the airport, never any traffic except during rush hour. I'm 60-100 mins from JFK, and have never had an easy drive there except for early Sun am in the winter.
Additionally, the flight times are terrible. Arrive after midnight in Vancouver, return a redeye. CX PE is $1k RT, AC is $776. So for our purposes, saving $900, a much easier airport commute, and significantly better flight schedules almost certainly pushes us towards AC. Trust me...I'd love to find a way to justify the CX route.
Without the need to sleep, however, I do think the AC dreamliner in PE will be fine. I'm flying more than I've flown in the past this year, though, so I was hoping to get PQM from United on this route. I'll be borderline 1K.
