Yeah, if I had just seen a pilot get an F seat without someone from the upgrade list getting it, I would have just shrugged and assumed it was policy and moved on. It was more that a pax *was* offered it, and then declined and the I wasn't, which boo. It really was a 3 minute time line for the whole thing. Ah well.
There are lots of times that the pilots are contractually entitled to FC but for one reason or another, the seat goes to a revenue passenger. I have relinquished a seat I was contractually entitled to, in order to accommodate another passenger a few times in the past. There is a lot of info on this stuff upthread, explained in great detail. Suffice it to say, if you're bumped by a pilot, it's because he or she has more status than you. Remember, you pay for your seat out of your pocket; we pay for ours out of our contract.
