Domestic baggage reclaim is not only landside in EDI, it's actually in a public area, a bit like in the USA. So if you do this you will need to reclear security if you want to fly out of EDI thereafter. If you don't have checked baggage then you stay airside and don't need to reclear security if returning to London. If the bag is taken off you at the gate in London T5/LGW/LCY it always goes to the landside baggage reclaim, it's not returned valet style on the bridge.

I don't fully understand the "LHR to home" bit, normally that is something you will have to do, unless your manservant is on hand.
