For the record, I am leaving from CXR, not SGN. There is one more flight later that night, but it arrives just 1 hour before my international flight. THAT is obviously far too close.
Basically, I have a 12:05AM international flight (HAN-NRT). The flights I can take to HAN from CXR are:
5:35PM - 7:20PM (VN)
6:40PM - 8:30PM (VietJet)
7:50PM - 9:35PM (VN)
9:15PM - 11:05PM (VietJet)
9:30PM - 11:15PM (VN)
Obviously the 9PM+ flights are too late; more like backup. I would also prefer avoiding the VietJet flight at 6:40PM, even though the time is perfect, because I have heard quite a few stories about last-minute VietJet cancelations.
So, it comes down to the 5:35PM or the 7:50PM. A 5 hour layover or a 2.5 hour layover (and 2.5 hours less at Amanoi).
