At least then, I'd much rather head south of Euston Road into studentland and the rather more welcoming gastro type pubs there. Shouldn't be too hard to find F1 tuned on the telly.
While many of the pubs aren't wonderful, the Kings Cross area has much gentrified since then. A lot of dodgy business types, who operated out of the railway arches and in the darker corners, were driven out permanently by the HS1 works and the bright lights it brought. Having the entire area at the back of St Pancras floodlit 24 hours/day for a couple of years definitely moved on the oldest profession and several other venerables ones too.
