We've had very good experiences on Royal Caribbean, especially when traveling with our elder folk. There was much consideration given to them especially with food. Our waiters always worked hard to make sure the elder folk were happy. About shore trips: It all depends on what you want to do. It is basically a scenery trip. A real vacation. Halifax is a wonderful city but is a hard walk up from where the ships dock. We often made our own arrangements, got a taxi etc. Just make sure that you get back to your ship in time. If you book via the ship, they will know where you are if delayed and wait for you (or make other arrangements). If you tour on your own, you will be responsible to get yourself back to the ship. Bon Voyage!
