+1 , me and my brother did that yesterday in CDG going DEL-CDG-ORD , all in 2E.

you leave the airplane and head out to transfer area
your ticket/passport get a brief look at (to confirm you are indeed transferring), I think they were primarily looking to make sure you have valid ticket. They will ask you if you know which gate you are departing from ("M", "L" ,etc). if not, they will look it up for you
you walk through security right there and then enter 2E
no other checks (at the gate or otherwise) for our flight to US

We were on Delta One so we used AF lounge which was the best business lodge I have seen so far in terms of smart arrangement and management.
