If memory from past promotion serves me, it is based on when you check out. So if you check out 4/1, you get credit. Similarly, you need to check out by 6/30 for that night to qualify. From what I recall from past promotions, 6/30 to 7/1 night would not count.
It is contrary to requalifying stay/night credit for 12/31 check in. It usually counts for the following (1/1) year, but a call to CS can have it count for the 12/31 year if you need that night/stay to requalify.
