Any others had this experience? Any advice on how to deal with this outrageously bad service?

Is this the return leg with the outbound already flown or part of a more complex itinerary?

Maybe try calling back and hope for a more clued-up agent.

Incidentally Brussels Airport has officially announced the suspension of all passenger flights on Friday, hence the cancellation.
