You are averaging under 2%. You would do better with the Citi
Double Cash MasterCard, or
Fidelity VISA both of which pay straight 2% on all spending, with no annual fee.

I actually already have a Citi card already that I can easily convert to a Citi Double Cash card, so I had an idea this morning that may get value out of both cards. What I could do is use the Amex as my primary card until I hit the $6,500 reward level, and then use it exclusively for gas, groceries, and drugstore purchases where a 5% cash back is paid out. Once I've hit this spending level, the Double Cash will be used as my main card so that my other spending earns 2% rather than 1%...
