Can you downgrade from the Barclays JetBlue Rewards card to the no annual fee card?

I was a JetBlue Amex Cardmember and I was just sent the Barclays JetBlue Rewards card which replaces it. I don't fly JetBlue much anymore and I was wondering if you can downgrade to the no annual fee JetBlue card to avoid paying the $40 annual fee. Has anyone tried?
