I'm really interested in this promo. I'm a first-year Diamond and love it so far (yes, status matched, from Marriott).
I'm also a bit of a math/statistics nerd and am always looking for how to make the best deal.
My math on this is that if you can figure out how to mass-Mattress-run:
- 25 stays (75K points from promotion)
- 25K points from Diamond amenity
- + Some unknown amount from lounges being closed (assuming you can find a place with lounge closed on weekends - maybe 5-10 nights? so 10-25K points?)
- At $100/nt, $2500 in spend, 5x points (12,500 points) + 30% bonus (3,750) + 2x points for Hyatt card (5K points). Total of ~21K
So, assuming you're in an area with a lot of cheap hyatts for weekends, and can put in a couple hours per week of booking and checking in (whether you actually stay or not),
net results:
$2500 spend
~135K points (Paying about 1.8 cents per point)
Diamond status re-qualified.
A few other possible ideas:
2) If you find category 1, you can do C&P. 25 nights x 2,500 points = 62.5K points + 25 x $50 = $1,250 out of pocket.
net results:
$1200 spend
~62K points (paying about 1.9 cents per point)
Diamond status re-qualified.
3) Citi Prestige 4th night free
Assume 6 stays of 4 days, 1 stay of 1 night. Still $100/nt.
Total out of pocket of 19 days (6 are free).
75K points from promotion, 7K points (Diamond Amenity), 16K points from stays. Guess of 10K points from lounge closed?. Total of 108K points
Spend $1900 on Prestige card, earning ~6K TY points, worth ~$100 in AA flights.
net results:
$1900 spend ($1800 after deducting $100 for TYP value)
~108K points (paying about 1.75 cents per point)
Diamond status re-qualified.
As a side benefit you only need to check in 7 times (6 if you just do one 5 night stay).
So they all net around the same cents per point.
- If you value HGP points significantly >1.9cpp, then the original option is best
- If you value minimal cash outlay for Diamond (or value HGP <1.8 cpp) then variant #2 is best
- If you value your time and only have options for 6 mattress runs, Variant #3 is best. Plus it's the lowest cost per point. Also the best option if you don't currently have Diamond (since # of stays don't matter if you don't have a Diamond amenity)
