Flying DCA-SJC on Sunday on a 5:40 AM flight but would much rather go later. Currently AA Gold and planning to use Same Day Standby for a later flight.
However, if I SDS on a 2 or 3 PM flight - how soon will I know if I confirm? It doesn't really help me if I'm DCA and then get pushed back 6-7 hours... can i cancel the SDS?
There is Same Day Change and then Standby. SDC (see thread) requires a proactive change based upon available inventory. If you SDC AFAIK you simply just can't revert back to your original flight. Standby would require you calling AA to let them know you are standing by for a later flight (or your ticket would be cancelled if you don't show up for your original flight). You would not clear until at the gate. If the latter flight you choose is wide open you would likely clear once the flight opens at T-1. If the flight is near full you might not clear until a few minutes before the door closed, or not at all.
