Yes, there are many merchants that don't accept Amex/MC/Visa.

Maybe I wasn't clear that the point is to meet minimum spends for credit card sign-ups, so no problems using wire transfers to get money. The issue is trying to find other ways to spend the big spend on credit cards when the merchant can't accept them.
