I got to try a sip of Pappy Van Winkle 23 last night. It tasted very strongly of the barrel wood: a bomb of vanilla on the palate and very smooth. The nose was overpoweringly caramel.
It was very nice, but tasted so much like wood that I'm not sure I could do a whole shot of it...and certainly not at the $75 or $100 or whatever they were charging.
