Coincidentally (and straying a bit further OT), my co-op is having a big contentious meeting tonight about switching our garage from self-parking with assigned spaces to valet so they can squeeze in more cars. We currently have less than one parking space for every four apartments and it's priced significantly below market, so there's a ridiculous waiting list (the last person to get a spot waited over 12 years and a new signup can expect a roughly 30-35 year wait based on recent turnover). But a lot of the folks who already have parking spaces are very, very angry about the change.
42nd & Dyer is better known as the Manhattan Plaza Garage. It's not the cheapest, but the location is great if you're coming in/out of the city via the Lincoln Tunnel, and in 30+ years of my family & I parking there, we've never been shut out due to a full lot.
