This is nothing new, special baggage fees to the Airlines are also country specific currency. A bicycle for example is $50USD, or $50 CAD or €50 or £50 depending on where you depart
Maybe I forgot to mention but I am a Canadian citizen, thus my surprise. The fee was charged to my Canadian credit card.
