Cathay Pacific, Asia Miles, and Marco Polo miles

What is the difference between these milage programs. I am leaving Unitied to go to Cathay and One World. I fly to Asia mostly Bangkok a lot and during my searches Cathay comes up as one of the cheapest for flights. I also lost my gold status with United so I think it is time to try someone else. With United miles every thing was connected. If I booked a flight with United and for part of the flight they used ANA the points were just put on my United Miles Program. That is why I am confused about Cathay Pacific, Asia Miles, and Marco Polo. I was going to sign up for the Marco Polo rewards but they charge $50. Are the benifits that much better? I went ahead and signed up with Cathay and Asia miles. Is it worth it to sign up for the Marco Polo rewards to? Thanks for any help with this.
