Always wondered how they calculated tax on rewards. Does an airline offer different awards with varying underlying fares? On aa.com there is plenty of normal availability in all buckets.
When this has been raised before there's been loads of people insisting that is the wrong way to calculate it as it should be a percentage of the price you actually pay, but I've never seen a definitive answer.
I imagine AA do it by just copying whatever the tax is for the equivalent ticket on that flight for a cash fare. It wouldn't require different rewards as such.
