I entered through MIA on Tuesday and found it very easy, the easiest I've encountered in the US in a decade or more. This was around 11:00 a.m., not a peak hour.
I'm eligible for Global Entry. I was surprised, however, when the agent who took my receipt asked where I had been and then, "What other languages do you speak?" It seemed to me that he didn't need to ask me anything. As for the other languages, I thought it was none of his business. I answered "none well."
Another agent stopped me as I was leaving the customs area, but I think this was just to verify that I had only carry-on luggage and wasn't leaving a checked bag behind.
Signs led me toward an exit that had one lane for crew and another for connecting passengers. The TSA checkpoint beyond it had a functioning precheck lane with only a short line.
