You mean to say that's not the way it usually works?
NO, in my case VIPER autocancelled the flights I had and wanted, with no useful recourse. In fact, this happened after I was checked in and on the way to the airport. I discovered the effects of VIPER when I tried to use the boarding pass on my phone to get through TSA security.
