IMO $43 to reissue plane tickets with a correction of the name is extremely reasonably. I'd pay the $43 rather than worry about the issue, although the OP hasn't disclosed the original cost of the tickets. The lower fee doesn't apply as it wasn't a mistake by MH.
However, I'm curious as to why the new passport needed to use the married rather than maiden name.
