Sorry to bump. But just back from a stay in two B&Bs in Hermanus (separate owners) and saw my contribution to this thread in a search and thought of adding this pro-tip (pun!). In BOTH cases B&B management expressly asked that you NOT leave tips on the bed for the houserkeeper as (combined reasons at both places) (1) in some cases, it's not clear whether its a tip or if the guest accidentally left behind cash, (2) tips are pooled and, in the past, tips left in-room were not added to the tip pool. One showed me a tip box at the checkout desk and said that he doesn't have the key, the staff do and they handle the tips (to assure me that he doesn't pocket the tips).
