I believe those signs only apply if you're try to turn back; that hallway is basically like a checkpoint exit where anyone can leave but only authorized personnel can go the other way. TSA and AA send people through there on a daily basis, like the TCC people mentioned earlier.
Hmmmm.... that could be true (exit v. re-entry access). I'll have to look at the signs again in a couple weeks. I do have to admit, it was nice to get out on the departure level!
