Same reason there is so little interest in local festivals in the Spain and Portugal Forum.
My own conclusion is that FTers have very set ideas about what they do when they travel. They build up a firm and inflexible tourism template and overlay it over every city or country they visit. Festivals rarely find their way into this unyielding blueprint.
Just my two cents but the obsessive nature of the japanese towards these local festivals results in them being far too packed to make them enjoyable. Accommodation can also be inflated.
I'm sure they are great but also being unable to fully understand what is going on is one reason why although I am well aware of them, I don't go out of my way to specifically visit them.
