Last time I was back in the US (August) the INS guy in DTW scanned my passport and said, "Welcome home. You've been gone a while!" He then proceeded to grill me for a few minutes about what I was doing here so long without a visa. As I was coming to pick it up, he didn't make too much of a stink.
