Welcome to FT and to the Hilton forum pooprocks , hopefully you get a good mixture of answers to your questions and this lets you decide how best to proceed. We do hope you'll stay around and post again in this and other areas, so that others can benefit from your experiences as well.

Might I ask what rate you had booked? Had you checked in (over the phone or via the app before showing up at the hotel?)

If you had a fully flexible rate and did not guarantee a late arrival and had not checked in via the app or phoned the hotel, this may explain why the hotel did not have a room ready if they were oversold.

If you had guaranteed the room with a card and especially if you had contacted the hotel to let them know you would be arriving late then there is no excuse for not having a room for you.

Personally, I think the 15k and dinner would suffice to cover the hassle for finding a room for you in a fully booked hotel. Others will feel otherwise as you have already seen above.
