I stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn on my visit to Hanoi in 2014. Just to be clear, it's not as well located as the Hilton Hanoi, which is a different hotel in a much better location, but both are far better located than the JW Marriott. The HGI isn't luxurious, but it's fairly new and was a very good value when I stayed there.

Unfortunately, I didn't enjoy Hanoi itself as much as most folks seem to, so I don't plan to return. If I ever did find myself back in Hanoi, I would prefer to stay at the Hilton (the non-Garden Inn one) or at a hotel closer to the lake, since I walked there almost every day of my visit.
