This morning flying out of Haneda, I chatted with the concierge in the lounge a bit more about this - After getting through to the lounge on my e-boarding pass I thought I'd ask if I need to do the "document check" or not. Turns out that I needed to and she claims that I would have been called at the gate again. She again explained that in late February there was a system change to make more strict the requirements around the document check. I quizzed her why that wasn't asked to me at Narita last week and she explained to her knowledge that this change is being rolled out at the various airports at slightly different timing so perhaps Narita wasn't rolled out yet (this to me seems weird, but you never know I guess..).
I happened to change my seat during my interaction with her and after I got my printed boarding pass, I noticed in the far right hand corner next to my ANA member number, it had the word "Accepted". I wonder if it means documentation accepted ... I don't think I have noticed that before... is this new?
I have seen a variety of "Docs OK" "Doc Checked" etc. on various carriers. I can't remember if I have seen anything on NH, but at least in the broader world of aviation, it is not rare.
