Wow, I didn't know that. I feel better about going ahead and paying for it so far out. Are the chances good that most airlines will do this or is it just hit or miss?

Your risk (that the fare evaporates leaving a much higher one in its place) is far greater than your reward (that it drops to something like $250).
And if the fare DOES drop a lot after you buy it, most airlines will cut you a travel voucher for the difference if you notice it and ask for it.</font>
