Please pardon my whining attitude in this post but this really didn't go over well with me.
Yesterday on my flight 2260 from SEA-ATL, DL made a huge deal about a passenger rolling over to one million miles on that flight. They made an announcement before boarding and then twice again on the plane. They had a special meal for the Mr. Almost Million Miler, who was sitting in row 27 in coach. Then to top it off, they picked him up in a Porsche in ATL. I looked at the DL PR flack picking him up (not the normal Porsche driver type who I've seen many times) and told her that they should have been picking me up since I would have appreciated a ride from F to the main terminal.
Why? I made 1M after 26 years of flying DL. I'm a DM who had to use an RU to snag a FC seat ahead of the other 7 DMs on the UG list. While Mr. Almost Million Miler enjoyed his special meal, I watched my neighbors eat cheeseburgers while I got stuck with a gloppy, quinoa laden salad.
I didn't even know I'd cleared 1M until my new credentials arrived week before last. Did anyone at DL say anything to me? Oh, heck no. But they make a big deal about somebody who isn't even top tier status just because he cleared the lowest rung of lifetime flying. (1M and $7.50 will get you a beer on the plane, right?)
I could certainly understand if that guy had cleared a level like 4M that DL should celebrate some serious loyalty to the airline. But as the FA on my flight with 32 years of experience put it, they get some guys who fly a few international trips and they make like its some colossal accomplishment. BTW, she was going to make an announcement about me making 1M but I asked her not to as I didn't want to steal Mr. Almost Million Miler's glory.
Hey DL, I'm now in my 4th year of being a Diamond Medallion and I'm still waiting for my ride in a Porsche. How about showing some love, huh?
