Clarity or more confusion! Just got my latest response back from Hyatt

Thank you for your message to Hyatt Hotels. I appreciate the opportunity to assist you with your upcoming reservation at the Hyatt Place Flushing / LaGuardia Airport.

According to your query, I would inform you that taxes are inevitable for payment irrespective of if the room is booked using a credit card or by Gold Passport points. 12,000 points per room per night plus 14.75% tax of the Standard Room rate will be charged to your room under confirmation number xxx. During the time of check - out you can prefer to pay by cash or card.

Think I will call the hotel as 14.75% of a $450 per night rate won't be great value!

Cheers
