I suspect it's a similar phenomenon to Italy. I was amazed how much like any other European company it was given Italian friends' descriptions of it being something like Somalia in terms of public services, infrastructure, and law enforcement.

Suggesting to certain Italian Americans that it's not paradise on earth may however cause offense.
