The middle seat is blocked on A320 series. There are no middle seats on E190, so you just have to hope that business class is empty.
You're right that most European airlines have the same seats in Y and C/J,
However, AQ's 2-2 config in C/J (exact same as in Y) is inferior to the config used by other airlines (such as LH) which still block the seat next to J pax resulting in a very comfortable 1-1 config.
